2014 Kresge Artist Fellowship Applications Are Now Available!
Metro Detroit Dance/Music and Film/Theatre Artists are Invited to Apply for $25,000 Awards
Detroit, MI – November 1, 2013 – Emerging and established metropolitan Detroit Dance/Music and Film/Theatre artists may now apply for a $25,000 Kresge Artist Fellowship at www.kresgeartsindetroit.org. This year, for the first time, Film/Theatre artists are eligible to apply. Kresge Artist Fellowships are funded by The Kresge Foundation and administered by the College for Creative Studies, with professional practice opportunities for the selected fellows provided by ArtServe Michigan.
In 2014, the program will provide support for nine Dance/Music Fellows and nine Film/Theatre Fellows living and working in metropolitan Detroit (Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties), whose commitment to artistic achievement is evident in the quality of their work.
Artists working in the following disciplines are eligible to apply for the 2014 Kresge Artist Fellowships:
Choreography, dance, music (composers and performers in all genres), sound art and interdisciplinary work (including experimental and other hybrid forms)
Directing (in film and theatre), screenwriting and playwriting

Applications are only available online and must be completed by Friday, January 31, 2014 by 11:59 p.m. E.S.T. Applications, program guidelines and a GUIDE to the application are available online.
The Kresge Arts in Detroit office will hold Applicant Orientations for artists interested in applying for a fellowship on the following dates:
Dance/Music Applicant Orientation: Saturday, December 14, 2013, 1-3 p.m.
Film/Theatre Applicant Orientation: Tuesday, November 19, 2013, 6-8 p.m.
Applicant Orientations are held at the College for Creative Studies, Walter B. Ford II Building, in the Wendell W. Anderson Jr. Auditorium. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation and should RSVP here to reserve their space.
Since 2009, Kresge Arts in Detroit has awarded 90 fellowships, totaling $2.5 million. The fellowships recognize creative vision and commitment to excellence within a wide range of artistic disciplines, including artists who have been classically and academically trained, self-taught artists and artists whose art forms have been passed down through cultural and traditional heritage. Kresge Arts in Detroit is committed to supporting artists from diverse cultural backgrounds at all stages of their professional careers. The fellows are selected through an open, competitive process as judged by independent panels of local and national distinguished artists and arts professionals.
In 2015, fellowships will be awarded to nine artists in the Literary Arts and nine artists in the Visual Arts. 2015 Kresge Artist Fellowships will be available on November 1, 2014.
