Cherise Morris’ essays have appeared in national publications such as The Iowa Review, Longreads, Fourth Genre, Bustle, Winter Tangerine, and The Feminist Wire. Her essay, “blk_grls_x-ing,” was selected as a notable work in Best American Essays 2018.  In 2017, she was selected to participate in the VONA/Voices Workshop for Writers of Color, where she studied with Kiese Laymon. Morris was a semifinalist for the 2017 Bitch Media Fellowship in Pop Culture Criticism and the 2018 James Baldwin Residency. She was named “Emerging Poet of the Midwest” by Z Publishing House.
