Postion Summary

The Program Producer: Professional Development (PD) plays an essential role in the design and delivery of Kresge Arts in Detroit’s (KAID) professional development offerings. The position’s responsibilities ensure the success of KAID’s support of the Kresge Artist Fellows and Gilda Award recipients, as well as ongoing artist promotion and special events featuring award recipients from previous years and benefitting all metro Detroit artists. The position is full-time with benefits and is funded by a two-year grant, with a high likelihood of continuation.

Kresge Arts in Detroit has been operating remotely since March 2020 and expects to remain a virtual office at least through December 2021. We are committed to strongly supporting the safety of the community we proudly call home, including our staff members and creative partners.

Program Background

Kresge Arts in Detroit represents one facet of The Kresge Foundation’s Detroit Program, a comprehensive community-development effort to strengthen the long-term economic, social, and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding region. Funded by The Kresge Foundation and administered by the College for Creative Studies, KAID provides significant financial support to emerging and established metropolitan Detroit artists through the Kresge Artist Fellowships and the Kresge Eminent Artist Award.


  • Lead day-to-day PD design and production, ensuring program goals and deadlines are met
  • Maintain PD calendar and budget, coordinating as needed with KAID award recipients, staff, contracted production and promotional support, and program partners
  • Plan and support program components, including celebration events, workshops, coaching, event and exhibition opportunities, and a film series
  • Draft internal and external communications and documents, for example vendor contracts, artist agreements, eblasts, and press releases, with responsibility for quality and accuracy 
  • Lead ongoing evaluation and improvement of the PD program, including researching new possibilities from peer and cross-sector programs, and coordinating with existing and prospective program partners
  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic files and, as needed, hard copy records
  • Remain informed of ideas, trends, and concerns in Detroit and nationally that relate to arts and culture, philanthropy, and individual artist support 
  • Serve as an ambassador and advocate of all KAID programs


  • Demonstrated interest and engagement in the metro Detroit cultural community
  • Strong writing, editing, listening, and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent project management skills, with an ability to anticipate, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Tech savvy with a high degree of proficiency with Zoom, G suite, and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative suite, Quickbooks, database programs preferred
  • Diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgment, and an ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously in a team setting as well as independently 
  • Dependable, resourceful, and solutions-oriented, with a good sense of humor
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
  • Multilingual a plus
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and ongoing learning
