Catie Newell

Catie Newell is an installation artist whose creative practice reworks existing spaces through material aggregations and the effects of light and darkness. Originally trained as an architect, she is drawn to the unpredictability and richness of existing spaces, using installation and photography to capture fleeting and beautiful readings of places in transition. In 2011, Newell received the Best Use of Urban Space Award from ArtPrize and the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects and Designers. Her work has been shown in the 2012 Architecture Venice Biennale, the 2015 Lille3000 Art Triennial, and, in 2016, the University of Michigan Museum of Art hosted Newell’s first solo museum show. Newell is a Lucas Fellow, and a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome.
