Michael Hurtt picked up a guitar and battered out his first chords around the same time that he picked up a pen and began writing about the twisted roadmap of American musical mythology. A self-made writer, musician, researcher and cultural archeologist, he has long been dedicated to shedding light on the artists, producers, record labels and music scenes that shook the world and then fell through the cracks of revisionist history. Drawing as much inspiration from his literary heroes as his musical ones, he writes with a force that entertains as much as it enlightens. He is currently at work on a book about Detroit’s eccentric Fortune Records label.
