Shawntai Brown
Shawntai Brown is a writer creating plays and other performative works centering Black queer characters, experiences, and histories. Detroit-bred, Brown began playing with dialogue as a Readers Theatre student at Cass Tech. She learned to script for stage as a creative writing undergrad and honed her craft through community partnerships and workshops, like Magenta Giraffe, and serving with Extra Mile Playwrights Theatre. She currently leads writing workshops for youth development. Over the past decade, Brown has birthed 16 plays centering queer people of color.
Brown served as a 2022 Kresge Artist Fellowship panelist in Live Arts.
